Funny Cars return to Idaho for 55th annual NAPA Ignitor, May 15-17

The longest-running major drag racing event in the Northwest roars back to life as the 55th Annual NAPA Ignitor Opener, presented by The Blower Shop, takes over Firebird Raceway from May 15-17. A cornerstone of Idaho motorsports since 1971, the Ignitor has been thrilling fans across the Treasure Valley for more than five decades.

The event marks the second stop on the 2026 NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series Funny Car calendar, headlined by AA/Funny Cars in the Stinker Stores Nitro Knockout. Defending champion Shane Westerfield, with the “Northwest Hitter” Austin & O’Brien Camaro, will lead a stout field of entrants.

Adding even more action to the weekend, the Ignitor will also kick off the Northwest Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, showcasing a great field of entries from across the West.

Funny Car qualifying begins Friday, May 15, at 3:00 p.m., with additional rounds at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16. The Nitro finals fire off at high noon on Sunday, May 17.

Sunday also marks Military Appreciation Day, with free admission for all veterans and active-duty personnel. Plus, kids 15 and under get in free all weekend long.
