Saturday photo gallery: Michigan race fans pack U.S. 131 for a memorable day in Martin
Saturday at the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals presented by MOPAR delivered another unforgettable chapter in NHRA’s historic return to Michigan.
After weather challenged the NHRA Simpson Safety Safari early in the day, the skies opened a window and the team went to work, preparing U.S. 131 Motorsports Park for a passionate crowd eager to see NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series qualifying.
Once racing began, the action came quickly. Cool conditions, a tricky racing surface, and the pressure of the Countdown to the Championship combined to keep crew chiefs, drivers, and fans on edge throughout the afternoon.
From packed grandstands and bustling pits to burnouts, header flames, and 200- and 300-mph qualifying runs, Saturday offered photographers no shortage of memorable moments.
